good start [Jan. 6th, 2009|12:14 am]

happy new year, twinkling city

1. I need to get back into photography. I need to stop taking shitty photos and think about technique. I'm going to start shooting film again

2. Yoga, as soon as the buses start running

3. On good days (for as long as the buses are on strike) I get a good 30 minutes of cardio each way walking to and from school. On shitty days when walking's illogical, I will get that hour's worth of cardio in the gym.

4. Enjoy the fuck out of my Research and Crit class (which really should be titled Opening Your Mind and Choosing Your Own Adventure)

5. Keep up with the time management and the Studio/J/Sanity balance

2008 ended well. 2009 began well. Final year feels so good.

I've been reading design blogs lately and I've been fighting the urge to take photos of my own apartment for everyone to ooh and aw at. My first year film studies prof was right though, all this showcasing really is porn for interior designers; it's all just narcissism, in the end.

I spend a lot of time on flickr and get so jealous of other people's style... but it's all just editing isn't it? Not necessarily post-production, but just carefully choosing what one shows. People feel like they need you more if you specialize, right? But you can still take crappy still lifes of hibernating bushes, you just won't choose to show them to anyone until your current phase is up. I s'pose it has something to do with being inspired, and having what you want to shoot accessible (or wanting to shoot what is accessible).

I miss Toronto. I'll be back with you and your wonderful people soon.

My costume makes me giggle. It might be even more awesome than the superman underroos of two years ago. Photos after tonight.

I took this photo 3 years ago, on film. I didn't develop the film properly and ended up failing the assignment twice. The prof and I have kept in contact, and I kept coming back to the darkroom to learn from and fix my mistakes. I'm gonna be one of his TAs this semester :)
